The new North Coast 500 road trip is Scotland’s answer to America’s Route 66. With soaring mountains, wild beaches, beautiful ruins and high passes, who would not love this route! And it passes the front door of our bunkhouse...

The route forms a loop around the whole northern tip of Scotland, from Inverness, to John O’Groats in the north-east, along the stark sea of the north to Durness, then down the convoluted west coast before turning inland at the Applecross peninsula. The itinerary was designed by the North Highland Initiative, a non-profit organisation established by Prince Charles to spread the love across less-visited parts of the northern Highlands.
